Modern and Contemporary Floristry Brian Skelhorn | International Floral Designer. Trained in the precision engineering industry for nine years after leaving school, Brian Skelhorn changed his fields of interest completely and founded the company by opening his first shop in Beeston in 1972. Renown for his contemporary style, he has acheived worldwide recognition as one of the UK's leading floral designers. He began entering competitions soon after opening the first shop and won the majority of those he entered. He reached the final of the Interflora Florist of the Year competition four times, and was twice the runner up. He has designed the Interflora stand at The Chelsea Flower Show, England's most prestigious flower event, on no less than FIVE occasions. On one occasion the stand was remounted at the World competition in Hamburg in 1982. In addition to his competition work, Brian has devoted a considerable amount of time to Interflora. He started working at a local level as District Chairman, and progressed to work throughout the UK as a National Judge, inspiring and encouraging younger florists in their work. He went on to represent the UK in international competitions such as the European Cup. His knowledge and experience proved invaluable when his was invited to be a World Judge, at the Interflora World Cup competition in Australia. In recognition of his hard work and dedication to Interflora, in November 2000 Brian was presented with the coveted "John Hunt" medal - an award given by Interflora for long and meritorious service to the Association. His dedication to this honour has also led to his appointment as Chairman of the John Hunt Medallists. His other international achievements include: |
